The Humanitarian Organization “Kosovsko Pomoravlje” donated 84,000 dinars to support the organization of this year’s “14 Reapers” memorial tournament and memorial service in Staro Gracko.
Remembering the Reapers Who Lost Their Lives
The traditional small-sided football tournament is held every July in memory of the fourteen Serbian reapers who were killed on July 23, 1999, while harvesting crops in their fields.
The tournament is part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the crime known as the “Bloody Harvest.” Alongside the sporting program, a memorial service is held in the village in front of the memorial plaque dedicated to those who lost their lives.
Keeping Their Memory Alive Through Community
By supporting the organization of the tournament, we wanted to help preserve the memory of the innocent reapers who lost their lives, while also supporting the people of Staro Gracko in their determination to bring young people and families together around this important memorial every year.
Events like this help keep the names of those who lost their lives from being forgotten and pass their memory on to future generations. At the same time, they bring the community together and show that the people of Staro Gracko, despite everything they have been through, continue to live, remember, and remain on their ancestral land.
