Anđela Vlajković, the first volunteer from Kosovo and Metohija to sign up with the Humanitarian Organization “Kosovsko Pomoravlje,” has distributed clothing to families in the Vitina area who are in need of support. The clothing was donated by Bambino a company from Užice. Anđela brought something personal to this initiative as well: the memory of how much the support of others once meant to her own family.
Today, she is in a position to offer that same helping hand to others. Her experience reminds us that volunteering begins with the simple desire to be there for one another.
From Receiving Help to Wanting to Help Others
Anđela’s desire to help others began long before this initiative. The support her family once received left a lasting impression on her, and today she is passing that kindness on through her own involvement.
I’ve always wanted to help others because it makes me feel fulfilled and happy. I remember how much it meant to me when someone came to help my family. That’s when I realized just how much other people’s support can mean, and I began wishing that one day I could be the person offering someone a helping hand. Through this organization, I now have the opportunity to turn that wish into action
Helping people in her own community is especially meaningful to her. She knows the area where they live and understands how even a little support can make everyday life easier.
The most beautiful thing is seeing someone’s smile and knowing that you’ve made their everyday life just a little easier and shown them that they haven’t been forgotten.
Building Trust and Respecting People’s Dignity
For Anđela, helping others is also about the way we approach people. Sometimes, it is difficult for people to talk about what they lack, even when their needs are great.
I think people find it easier to talk when they know the person who comes to help them, because trust and a sense of closeness develop over time. Some people find it difficult to talk about their problems, sometimes because they feel embarrassed, and sometimes because they are used to dealing with everything on their own. That’s why it’s important to approach them without judgment, with understanding and respect for their dignity.
This is precisely why having volunteers from the local community is so valuable. Their familiarity with the people and their living circumstances helps us better understand each family’s needs and approach them with greater care and sensitivity.
Clothing for Families in the Vitina Area
Thanks to the generous donation from Bambino in Užice and Anđela’s dedication, clothing reached families in the Vitina area. We are grateful to the donor for their support and to our volunteer for her time, care, and effort.
Anđela points out that people’s needs vary depending on their age and life circumstances. Young people need education, encouragement, and opportunities for the future. Older people often need food, medication, and help with everyday tasks, but also someone to talk to and a little attention.
Children need clothes, shoes, school supplies, and the conditions to grow up carefree, without feeling different from their peers. It’s important to recognize what each person truly needs and help as much as we can.
You Don’t Have to Wait for the Perfect Moment to Volunteer
Anđela has a message for young people who are thinking about volunteering: start with what you can already offer.
I would tell young people not to wait for the perfect moment or think they need to have a lot of money to make a difference. Sometimes all it takes is goodwill, a little time, and the desire to brighten someone’s day. Everyone can contribute in their own way, and even the smallest gesture can mean a great deal to someone. What’s important is that we don’t forget about one another and that we keep our sense of humanity alive.
She believes that each of us can do something good for the community we live in. Helping a neighbor, visiting an elderly person, or offering a kind word to someone going through a difficult time can all be a good place to start.
We never know what someone else might be going through, so it’s important to show understanding and not turn away from other people’s needs. When everyone does what they can, our community can become a much better and more compassionate place to live.
