Report from the first online forum

Life Behind the Wire, was held on June 21, 2024.
The first Vidovdan online forum for Serbs abroad and at home – Life Behind the Wire – was held.

Representing our organization, Marija Vasić hosted the forum live from Kosovo and Metohija, discussing the lives of children and young people in the region. The event was accessible in two sessions for registered participants from Europe and the USA.

Key points addressed during the forum included:

-How do children live in Kosovo and Metohija?
-What are the perspectives for young people?
-How can we help?
-Which projects of the Kosovo Pomoravlje organization are aimed at children and youth?

Children and Youth in Kosovo and Metohija

Highlighting the challenges that children and young people face daily—often overlooked in public discourse—Marija emphasized that one of the organization’s goals is to bring awareness to the real lives and struggles of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Among the major challenges children face are restricted mobility, a lack of sports, cultural, and other activities in the isolated communities where they live, and the long-term effects of growing up in such environments.

Additionally, young people face limited opportunities for professional development, challenges in pursuing their ideas, scarce job prospects, and financial insecurity in their families.

Programs Offered by Our Organization

For each of these challenges, our organization has launched projects aimed at supporting the healthy development and retention of young people in Kosovo and Metohija. Some of these projects include:

Summer School in Bratilovac – letnjaskola.kosovskopomoravlje.org
Kosovo Pomoravlje Basketball School – skolakosarke.kosovskopomoravlje.org
Scholarship Program – Scholarships for students
Buy from Kosovo – kupujsakosmeta.rs

Participants shared their comments, observations, and suggestions for the organization’s future work, greatly contributing to the event and the organization’s mission. Some suggestions, such as arranging internships in Republika Srpska for our scholarship recipients and organizing an art workshop in our Summer School, will be implemented immediately.

HO Kosovo Pomoravlje thanks all participants for their time, attention, and support in helping the voices of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija be heard this Vidovdan and invites them to continue supporting our work.

Last year, in Prizren for the Liturgy!
