Support from the Serbian Church-School Community of St. Dimitrije in Canada has reached the Ničić family.
Aranđel Ničić (22), his younger brother Hristijan (5), and their grandmother Veselinka live in the village of Livoč near Gnjilane. Just before Easter this year, the boys lost their father to heart disease, while their mother had left them years earlier when Hristijan was still a baby.
They live on their grandmother’s pension of 18,000 dinars. Since their father’s passing, they have not been able to receive social assistance or child benefits, as administrative procedures for transferring guardianship to Aranđel are still ongoing.
Hard Days for the Ničić Family
Young Hristijan urgently needs therapy with a special education teacher and a speech therapist to overcome developmental and speech delays that began in early childhood. His older brother Aranđel has taken full responsibility for raising him after their father’s death, with their grandmother helping as much as her health allows.

A Brother’s Love That Brings Tears
Aranđel says he would like to find a job but only after making sure his little brother gets through the trauma of losing their father and being abandoned by their mother. This journey will take time, effort, and money, as therapy sessions in Vranje must be attended three times a week.
Just before their family’s patron saint day, St. Nicholas, we visited the Ničić family to deliver financial help (€247) sent by our people in Canada who had heard their story. Although fragile, tired, and sad, they were preparing to welcome guests, pray to God, and honor their protector saint.
Among the Last Serbian Families in Livoč
The village of Donji Livoč was once a mixed Serbian-Albanian community. Today, only about ten Serbian homes remain, while the rest are empty or sold. Locals say relations with Albanian neighbors have always been peaceful, but the isolation from the wider Serbian community is hard for children and young people.
The school is closed, there is no social life, no work opportunities. Right after finishing school, Aranđel stepped into his father’s shoes—driving him to treatments, taking his brother to kindergarten, and caring for the household. His incredible love and dedication gave him the strength to carry this heavy cross with gentleness and a smile, never once complaining, even though he has little time for himself in the best years of his life.
