Life at K&M

The Future of Kosovo and Metohija Belongs to the Youth

When we talk about young people who prove with their effort and knowledge that there is a future in Kosovo and Metohija, one of those faces is certainly Miljana Bojković. She is a fourth-year Law student at the University of Priština, temporarily based in Kosovska Mitrovica, and one of the scholarship recipients of the humanitarian organization Kosovsko Pomoravlje.

Miljana lives in Babin Most with her parents, two younger brothers, and her sister. Despite the responsibilities of growing up in a family with four children, she has managed to set a clear goal – to graduate and remain in her homeland.

“I would love to finish my studies here, to work here, and to help my family and, of course, everyone around me. That’s my goal,” Miljana says.

Scholarships for Students in Kosovo and Metohija – Support That Changes Lives

Like many students in Kosovo and Metohija, Miljana has faced numerous challenges. The scholarship was the wind at her back.

“I applied through your website. I saw the post on Instagram and wanted to give it a try because I thought that even if I stumbled, I would get strong support to continue my studies. The scholarship covers many of my costs, from dorm expenses to books. But more than that—it gives me motivation to stay in my homeland and to give back to my community.”

For many students, this is more than financial aid—it’s the feeling that they are not alone and that someone believes in their effort.

Student Life in Mitrovica – Challenges That Build Strength

Student life rarely comes without obstacles. Miljana admits that at one point she even considered giving up:

“In my first year, I had one exam I failed several times. Back then, I thought I would quit. But I just couldn’t. I believe anyone can succeed if they have a goal. I held onto that thought, and eventually, I passed everything. That was my biggest challenge.”

Today, she is proud she didn’t give up.

“Finishing my studies, finding a job, becoming independent, and making life easier for both my parents and myself—that’s what keeps me going,” she adds.

Although studying in Mitrovica is similar in many ways to studying in other Serbian cities, there are still differences.

“The only real difference here is the constant tension and uncertainty about what could happen because of the situation. That’s what sets us apart. Otherwise, studying here is just like anywhere else in Serbia,” Miljana explains.

Supporting Youth in Kosovo and Metohija – Choosing to Stay

Miljana says she never seriously thought about leaving permanently.

“Honestly, I want to stay here, because whenever I go to central Serbia, even just for a short time, something pulls me back—this is home. That’s why I most want to stay in Kosovo and Metohija.”

For her and many of her peers, the University in Mitrovica is a symbol of hope.

“I think we, the young students here, are the future. All of us studying in Mitrovica—we are the ones holding the city together. The University is what gives people hope that things will get better.”

Her words echo the feelings of other young people.

“At my faculty, everyone wants to stay. In my year, all my friends think the same. We hope to become lawyers, doctors, and to remain here to help our people—regardless of nationality or anything else.”

A Message to Future Scholars and Donors

Despite the difficulties, Miljana has a clear message for young people and for those considering supporting students in Kosovo and Metohija:

“Never give up on education. Believe in yourself and take every opportunity you are given. Knowledge is the greatest value a person can gain—it’s something no one can ever take away.”

The Hope That Remains in Kosovo and Metohija

The story of Miljana Bojković is not just the testimony of one young woman building her career—it’s the symbol of an entire generation that wants to stay, to fight, and to build a stronger community in Kosovo and Metohija.

In her words, we can recognize what is most valuable—faith in knowledge, in unity, and in the future of Kosovo and Metohija.
