Helping the last house in Manuta

In the last Serbian house in Manuta, a hamlet of the village Zebince near Novo Brdo, live the Jović family: Siniša, Razija, Mihajlo, Marina, and their grandmother. It’s about 2 kilometers from the main village road to this hamlet. Still, the Jović house feels much farther, as the path is only accessible by tractor or off-road vehicles. Surrounding them are hills and forests, with no street lighting.

Life in the last house of Manuta

Their relatives moved away long ago. They say they have no one left and worry that strangers passing by might harm the children. “Some years ago, an Albanian man beat my child. He went down to play, and the man thought we sent him. The child came back crying, saying the neighbor had hurt him,” explains Razija, Marina and Mihajlo’s mother.

School breaks last longer in Manuta

Mihajlo and Marina can’t get to school without transport. Every day, a van brings them to school and back. From fifth grade, they will attend a school in a neighboring village. Marina’s class has only two students, and Mihajlo’s has just one more. During summer, they stay at home. They rarely move more than a hundred meters from the gate. They play in the yard and take care of eight cows, which are the family’s main source of livelihood.

The Jović house needs help

Selling milk is the Jović family’s primary income. Razija also makes homemade cheese, but she cannot go to the market because of transportation issues. She carries over 100 liters of milk and water daily from the house to the barn.

Needed materials for a 12 square meter dairy room

Helping the last house in Manuta
They urgently need a specially built room for storing and processing milk, around 12 square meters. For them, it’s a big investment because their income barely covers basic expenses. It would also help if they received materials, as hardworking Siniša builds and plastered it himself. Total needed €1,500
