A little over a year ago, we invited you to join us in restoring the school in Bratilovce, near Kosovska Kamenica.
After the war in 1999, all the school’s inventory was stolen.
The school bell rings again in Bratilovce!
Today, five children live in this village. A teacher and subject instructors regularly come to give classes. The school building has been temporarily adapted, providing modest conditions for teaching.
Although the school in Bratilovce requires significant investment, the preserved building, the surrounding environment, and the dedication of teachers from “Desanka Maksimović” Elementary School in Kosovska Kamenica bring hope that both the school and the village could come back to life.
Summer camp in Bratilovce
The school sits at about 800 meters above sea level. This gives Bratilovce fresh, clean air and rich natural surroundings. Located just 10 km from town, it’s an ideal spot for excursions and spending time outdoors. The climate makes it perfect for recreational classes and outdoor schooling.
Our organization, together with the school’s administration, has decided to restore the Bratilovce school and set up a small outdoor camp for open-air classes. During the summer, workshops and excursions will be organized for children from remote villages and small classrooms, sometimes with only a handful of pupils or even just one. This way, many children will have the chance to spend their summer break with friends, learning, playing, and enjoying sports.
Step by step toward a children’s paradise in Bratilovce
So far, in cooperation with the main school, we have repaired major damages. The walls have been restored, the floor concreted, and new doors and windows installed. The largest investment so far has been a brand-new roof, which cost €7,517. The next essential steps are digging a well, laying down flooring, and installing additional window.
