Help for the population

What are the problems of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija?

Life in small hamlets in Kosovo and Metohija without roads, shops, or pharmacies, often in the mountains and far from towns is difficult and uncertain. Each day begins with the same worries: how to reach a doctor, do we have enough oil, and who from the village will go to town to get medicines.

Hope that normal life will finally return to these small Serbian villages persists, despite the fact that it is increasingly difficult for young people to start families, find work, solve housing issues, and feel confident that their children are safe on the way to school.

Elderly residents also face hardships. Often alone, sick, with little or no income, they strive to keep their yards, homes, and fields maintained. Despite the challenges they have endured, they still hope for better times.

It’s hard to imagine how families manage to educate their children, send them to university, and support their aspirations under such circumstances. The so-called minimum income of 11,000 dinars which for most Serbs became the only stable income after factories closed post-1999 is insufficient even to cover basic expenses.

For those who remain steadfast and brave in Kosovo and Metohija today, agriculture, day labor, or social aid are often the only means of survival. The struggle for mere existence leaves little room for cultural life, sports, or education, which continues to deteriorate.

Our organization, has been working for four years to raise awareness about these issues and alleviate them. This project focuses on youth, children, families, and the elderly to provide support wherever possible.

Our assistance program includes the following types of support:

How can you help?

People in Kosovo and Metohija need us to understand their problems, get to know their families, lifestyles, concerns, and perspectives.

It is important that everyone in need has the opportunity to tell their story and explain their problems, so the help provided meets their exact needs. That is why we strive to share  real impressions from the field, establish lasting contacts, and build friendships with anyone who wants to understand life in Kosovo and Metohija and how they can help.

Only in this way can everyone’s right to a dignified life be upheld, and many challenges eased or solved. We know our neighbors and fellow citizens deserve this, and with your support, we believe we can help.
