Our organization, in collaboration with the Serbian Youth for Kosovo and Metohija from Belgrade, has launched a project to renovate the Paunović family home in Poneš, Kosovo and Metohija.
The Paunović family consists of six members, living on a few minimal incomes that together barely reach an average salary. Since the family has two school-aged children, money barely covers everyday needs, while their home has been in need of renovation for years.
The difficult life of the Paunović family
Daniela and Ivan, parents of Stefan, Sanel, Ivana, and Mila, say their most urgent needs are insulation, a new roof, and an additional bedroom. The Paunović home is old, has been leaking for a long time, and is very hard to heat during winter.
The village where they live is mixed; after the war, it counts around 190 Serbs and 300 Albanians. The Serbian families live in a few hamlets that were spared from property destruction and persecution. The village school serves both Serbian and Albanian children, divided into two shifts. Poneš is about ten kilometers from Gjilan but is quite isolated from other Serbian communities, so villagers’ lives are mostly centered around the Serbian part of the village.
Renovation project for the Paunović family home
After visiting this hardworking and hospitable family, we decided to launch a humanitarian initiative to renovate their house. We are especially grateful that young people from Užice supported the project and, during a recent visit to the family, donated €2,000 for roof tiles and battens.

-Addition of a bedroom €2,500 (materials and labor)
