Campaign reports

Children are asking – I have nothing to give them.

Let’s Save the Villages in Kosovo and Metohija – Support the Dimitrijević Family

Our villages continue to live thanks to families like the Dimitrijević family. Despite the daily struggle to provide their children with the basics for growing up, they remain in their home in the village of Poneš near Gnjilane.

Zoran and Marija have three children – Stefan, Milica, and five-month-old Anđela. Zoran’s father also lives with them.

Last year, their house was badly flooded. They managed to repair the damage on their own, with the help of neighbors and friends. But the consequences remain – the family is now fighting severe dampness that is hard to control.

-We have to repaint the walls three or four times a year. Every morning, I wipe the corners of the walls. I don’t know what else to do. It’s not healthy for the children, nor are all those chemicals…says Marija.

Their old, extended house has no plaster or insulation. The roof is worn out, leaks, and was even damaged by fire.

Roof Repair, Insulation, and Drainage

The only steady income is Zoran’s 25% salary as a night guard in a kindergarten. This barely covers daily expenses, leaving nothing for bigger repairs. Zoran also takes on extra jobs around the village to feed his family.

-The children ask for things – but I can’t give them. What can I provide with 25% of a salary? Zoran explains.

Raising a family in Kosovo and Metohija today is a true act of courage and deserves deep respect. The least we can do for young couples like the Dimitrijević family is to give them a helping hand and support for a better tomorrow.

Just €2,500 More to Reach the Goal!

Thanks to many kind people, the total amount needed to help this family has already gone down from €7,000 to €2,500. The  roof has already been replaced, which was one of the biggest investments, but the problem of dampness still remains.
That’s why we invite you once again, before the colder days arrive, to join us in completing this campaign for the Dimitrijević family and to support families who are keeping Kosovo and Metohija alive.
