The Kosovo Pomoravlje Summer Schools being organized for the third time for children from Serbian communities in Kosovo and Metohija. Our summer school is special because it brings together children from isolated villages, giving them the chance to learn through play and connect with peers.
Who Is the Summer School For?
The school is designed for children who often do not have opportunities to gather and socialize during summer vacation. The goal of the summer school is to provide a safe and joyful camp experience where children can make friends, learn through play, and participate in various workshops.
What Did the Summer School Look Like Before?
The previous two schools created wonderful memories for both children and teachers. Classes and workshops were held in a separate school section in Bratilovac near Kosovo Kamenica. During last year’s camp, children stayed in the church guesthouse in Bostan. For many children, the school helped them overcome challenges with certain subjects in a fun way. Lessons in their mother tongue, history, religious education, creative workshops, and excursions sparked new interests and skills. Most importantly, every child returned home with new friends. For a moment, loneliness faded, summer vacations felt full of friends, and the children experienced freedom and carefree joy, not isolation.
Children who have participated so far came from all over Kosovo and Metohija: Kosovo Kamenica, Vitina, Novo Brdo, Lipjan, Istok, Peć… Our teachers carefully considered their interests, wishes, and abilities. By tracking success through reports, we have been able to improve each subsequent summer school.
What’s New This Year?
This year’s Summer School will take place from August 3–10 in Štrpce on the Šar Mountains. The program will follow the NTC learning system eveloped by Professor Ranko Rajović. Thanks to the generous support of Professor Rajović and his team, our teachers receive free training in the NTC program. During the camp, classes will be coordinated by licensed NTC teacher Ivana Otašević Veljin in cooperation with local instructors.

The goal of the NTC program is to teach children through play, helping them master school lessons while enjoying nature, without the use of mobile devices. Participants will explore the Šar Mountains, learn survival and outdoor skills, take a historical tour of Prizren, and enjoy fun evening activities at the camp.
Why Is Summer School Important?
Children in Kosovo and Metohija are often isolated during the summer. Many have few opportunities to socialize or play because very few children live in their villages. Activities like workshops and camps are crucial—they encourage socialization, help children discover their interests and talents, and boost confidence. Children who attended the school for two consecutive years showed improved communication with adults and peers, and greater confidence in expressing problems, opinions, and needs. Through the summer school, we can support them consistently in their growth.
