The insulation for the Stojanović family’s home in Kmetovac was completed thanks to the generosity of the brotherhood gathered around the Slanci Monastery near Belgrade.
Our dear friends from the Missionary Brotherhood of Saint Stefan from Slanci visited the Stojanović family during their humanitarian trip to Kosovo and Metohija. During their visit, they donated €7,500, which was used to insulate the family’s home that had long been affected by dampness.
Insulation Completed for the Stojanović Family in Kmetovce
The Stojanović family consists of eleven members. The head of the family has four sons, three of whom live on a small 1.5-are plot. Their unity and brotherly love make even such a small space enough for their four young children and they are expecting another baby soon.
Slobodan Stojanović, the eldest son, lives in his hometown of Kmetovac with his wife and two small children. Unfortunately, he is currently unemployed.
“I want to thank our brothers from Slanci. We’ve completed the insulation on our house, and it means so much to us, especially for the children. Last year, because of the moisture and mold, we had to sleep with the kids in one room — on mattresses,” said Slobodan.
Young People in Kmetovce Without Steady Jobs
Slobodan, his brother, and their wives have no stable source of income. They take on any temporary work they can find and cultivate their small piece of land.
“You can make a good living from agriculture here. The problem is we don’t have any machinery. I have to pay someone for every job. If I had my own equipment, I could plant more and earn more.”
Agriculture – A Great Opportunity for Villages in Kosovo Pomoravlje
The people of Kmetovce, near Gnjilane, are well known for growing vegetables. Sadly, only a few Serbs still live here today, but nearly all of them continue to farm their land and depend on agriculture. It remains the biggest and perhaps the only hope for preserving this village. Support for young families, like the Stojanović, is the foundation for the survival of this and other villages in Pomoravlje and beyond.
