Distribution of packages in Vrbeštica under the Šar mountain

The distribution of gift packages to children in the village of Vrbeštica Šar mountain was carried out on the eve of Christmas.

We visited the village of Vrbeštica for the first time. Nestled at the foothills of Šar Mountain, at an altitude of 1,050 meters, the village has around 300 houses and represents one of the larger Serbian communities in this part of Kosovo and Metohija.

Gift Distribution for Children in Vrbeštica

During this humanitarian action, our organization distributed 50 Christmas gift packages to children from one year of age up to the fourth grade of elementary school. The villagers welcomed us warmly and with genuine surprise, noting that visitors rarely come to their doorsteps to bring joy, especially to children.

Life of Serbian Families under Šar Mountain

Vrbeštica is home to the elementary school “Šarski odred,” attended by students from first to eighth grade, as well as the Church of Saint Elijah. Nearby, about five kilometers from the village, lies the hermitage of Saint Peter of Koriša.

Large, old yet well-preserved houses, along with neatly kept yards, testify to the hardworking and honorable people of Vrbeštica who, despite difficult living conditions, continue to protect and preserve their family homes.

Šar Mountain – A Potential for Raspberry Farming

Due to the lack of permanent employment opportunities, many residents are forced to work temporary jobs in central Serbia, while their families remain in the village. A number of households survive thanks to raspberry plantations, which represent one of the key natural potentials of the Šar Mountain region. Social life in the village is quite limited, as there are no organized cultural or sports activities.
