The family is a school of virtues.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy 40 Martyrs, who, through their suffering and martyrdom, showed us how to share in faith and God’s Word with both heart and mind. May the Lord shine His light upon us and grant us crowns of immortal glory. This day is also dedicated to young married couples who, like the martyrs of Sebastia, have united in Christ’s love and pledged to each other a fidelity and love that no trial can overcome. By building healthy and harmonious families as the foundation of society, they create progress and the future of the nation. Families preserve the spiritual and moral values of our community, and in the words of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Russia: “The family is a school of virtues.” Its importance remains unchanged in contemporary culture and customs, as children learn goodness from the example of their parents from the earliest days. Especially in these challenging times, it becomes clear how important it is to be surrounded by loved ones and to have a family where faith and devotion are nurtured in every generation, regardless of the complexities of modern life. Therefore, obedience, discipline, patience, and responsibility are essential to protect our household, our surroundings, and ourselves. In Kosovo and Metohija, the largest number of extended families still live today, despite all the hardships that have affected the Serbian people in recent decades. This stands as proof and an example to all compatriots that survival in the toughest times is possible only when we have by our side those for whom we are willing to endure. It is the duty of our people and our state to protect Serbian families in Kosovo and Metohija and to ensure that our children grow up on their ancestral land. On this day, we must remember how important it is to support young people in Kosovo and Metohija so they remain at their hearth and build their own families there. May today’s celebration bring peace, love, and prosperity to our homes, and may newlyweds enjoy a harmonious and happy married life! Happy Newlyweds!
