What’s the problem?
Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija face, in addition to the general challenges affecting all of Serbia and the region, extra difficulties caused by the aftermath of war: kidnappings, displacement, property destruction, and exile. Due to decades of isolation and economic stagnation, many families who remained in the region after the war live in extremely harsh conditions, in poverty or on the edge of it, without opportunities to work or start their own businesses.
How can you help?
Your donations would create sustainable sources of income that could be directed toward:
- Helping individuals start family businesses
- Supporting producers to expand and develop their production
- Providing free training in writing business projects so that everyone can apply for public project funding
How is our program different from others?
Large-scale humanitarian aid for the people of Kosovo and Metohija, from Serbs in the country and the diaspora, has continued for over 20 years. However, investments in the local economy and business development are very rare, and isolated humanitarian actions for vulnerable families are not a long-term solution for remaining in the region. Our idea at the humanitarian organization Kosovo Pomoravlje is to provide immediate aid to those who need it most and launch economic projects that create jobs for young people, giving them the chance to work and develop their ideas. One example is the first online store in Kosovo and Metohija, Kupuj sa Kosmeta, launched in August 2020, which now allows several families to earn an income by selling their products.
