We help Kosovska Kamenica survive the winter

Kosovska Kamenica is a small, hilly town, divided into a town center, villages, and hamlets, where life is equally challenging everywhere. Jobs for young people and families are scarce, and the only way to survive is through agriculture. Unfortunately, many families don’t own large plots of land, have nowhere to sell their produce, and lack the resources to properly work the land.

Every year, at the beginning of December, we hear from many people in the area asking for help to “get through the winter.” It’s hard enough to simply visit their villages, let alone imagine facing icy days knowing they might be short on firewood, food, electricity, or money.

The Đorđević and Dejanović families were among the first we visited to ease their circumstances and see what challenges they face this winter.

The Đorđević family is originally from Koretin but moved to Korminjane, where they continue to build and equip their home. They have three children Anja, Teodora, and Filip and live very modestly, doing their best to earn what they can. They have a small garden, and Ljubiša often earns daily wages doing various manual jobs. We have helped them multiple times with food, clothing, and money. This time, we brought them food, a computer for Anja and Filip, and toys for Teodora.

Life is also tough for the Dejanović family, who have two young children and live in a cramped house with dampness and groundwater issues. They live in Veliko Ropotovo and, like many others, rely on a modest government salary of 11,000 dinars and social assistance of 18,000 dinars these are their total monthly incomes. With current inflation and rising costs, they barely manage to pay the bills. While their situation requires long-term solutions and larger investments, receiving the groceries and hygiene products we donated this time made a real difference, even if only temporarily.

As we receive daily calls from people in need and do our best to support as many as possible, we invite you to join us. Your donations can help ensure that the upcoming winter is not a source of fear for Serbs living in the enclaves.
