The continuation of the Summer School project was successfully held in Budva from September 15 to September 22 this year. Just like in Kosovo and Metohija, the program was carefully designed to combine both educational and fun activities for children. This time, the participants were children from various parts of Metohija and Kosovo Pomoravlje, many of them coming from small, isolated villages with very few children. A total of eight boys, aged 11 to 14, had the opportunity to spend time in Budva, where they enjoyed different learning and recreational activities. We especially made sure to include children who had never, or only rarely, experienced being at the seaside or on a similar trip.
Educational Activities
Since most of the participants didn’t know how to swim, swimming lessons were made the central activity of their stay in Budva. Thanks to the Sports and Recreation Center Budva, our boys had the chance to attend swimming lessons at the city pool, successfully led by Ivana Liješević, the center’s director and a professor at the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education.
In addition, the children visited the historic towns of Kotor and Budva. In Kotor, special attention was given to the Old Town, its monuments, and historically significant buildings, while in Budva we visited the City Museum, where the children attended a fascinating lecture on local history and saw numerous artifacts, some dating back over 2,500 years.
We also visited several important monasteries—Podmaine, Ostrog, and Miholjska Prevlaka near Tivat—as well as the Church of Christ’s Resurrection in Podgorica. At each monastery, we organized short lectures about its history and spiritual significance. Especially memorable were the children’s first visit to Ostrog Monastery, and the rich treasury of Miholjska Prevlaka, where parish priest Father Mihailo shared in-depth insights about artifacts more than a thousand years old.
Thanks to Branislava Vujačić, a retired Serbian language and literature professor who generously hosted our group, the children also enjoyed a short literary session and a few poems from her collection.
Fun Activities in Budva
Of course, the Summer School in Budva also included plenty of fun. Going to the beach was a highlight, especially for those boys who had never seen the sea before. We also enjoyed a stroll through Podgorica, while evening walks through Budva and time spent at the local amusement park brought special joy to everyone. Another unforgettable experience was the cable car ride from Kotor to the top of Mount Lovćen, with breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor.
Thank You for Making the Budva School Possible!
We are deeply grateful to all donors and kind-hearted people who made this Summer School in Budva possible. A special thanks goes to the Vujačić family, who generously provided accommodation, and to Mr. Marko Carević, who ensured meals for all participants. We also thank the Municipality of Budva, the Sports and Recreation Center Budva and its director Ivana Liješević, the monasteries of Podmaine, Ostrog, and Miholjska Prevlaka, as well as the Municipality of Tivat and the members of Miholjski Zbor organization.
We invite you to continue supporting our initiatives through which we bring hope, joy, and opportunities to the people of Kosovo and Metohija.
