Olivera Radić at the Moravian Spiritual Evenings: “We are waiting for Christ, not for better times”

During the week dedicated to the Feast of Saint Bosiljka of Pasjane, another lecture was held at the Pasjane Cultural Center as part of the “Morava Spiritual Evenings” series, under the title “We Are Waiting for Christ, Not for Better Times.” The event was organized together with the Pasjane Parish and the Monastery of Draganac.

Our guest speaker was Olivera Radić, a Serbian language teacher at the Gymnasium in Orahovac  also a writer, journalist, and humanitarian known for her heartfelt writings about the lives of Serbs living in enclaves. Through an emotional and sincere confession, she spoke about life in the ghetto, the faithful gathered around the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, and their unshakable faith that better days will come.

Olivera emphasized that her work serves as a testimony of the times and a reminder that stories of endurance and suffering must never be forgotten. She reminded us that after the great exodus of Serbs from Kosovo in 1999, less than ten percent of the former population remained in Orahovac — today, only about 230 people.

Still, as she said:

“There are few of us, but as the saying goes, even a grain of salt can season the meal we live on. We believe that our little our faith, perseverance, and love for this place  will be enough to help us remain and endure here.”

The program was hosted by our own Marija Vasić from the Humanitarian Organization Kosovsko Pomoravlje. The evening concluded with words and a blessing from Father Hristofor of the Draganac Monastery, bringing this spiritual gathering to a heartfelt close.

The Feast of Saint Bosiljka of Pasjane, celebrated liturgically on October 26, gathers an ever-growing number of faithful each year  those who cherish the spiritual traditions of this region. We are proud to have once again been part of this celebration, a living testimony to the faith, endurance, and love of our people for Kosovo Pomoravlje.
