On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the pogrom in Kosovo and Metohija on March 17, 2004, our organization, with God’s guidance and in collaboration with IK Prometej from Novi Sad and the Association To Roots, supported the publication of Dušica Filipović’s novel Metohijski Sfumato.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who, through this book, helped revive the old Serbian tradition of subscription. Through this initiative, we brought together over a hundred generous people who showed their willingness to support and advance contemporary Serbian publishing.
Preserving Memory Through Knowledge
No one among us has forgotten those three terrible days of childhood. Yet, publishing Metohijski Sfumato is a special blessing from God, reminding us that great suffering shapes strong people. This was the life of our parents and ancestors before them, a cross we bear even today. They knew why and in whose name they suffered. Only with such knowledge can we preserve our painful memory of March 17. This book exists for that reason – to know, to remember, and to persevere.
Metohijski Sfumato
Dušica Filipović’s debut novel Metohijski Sfumato bears witness to the final days of Serbian statehood in Kosovo and Metohija, a reality almost mythical to post-war generations. She tells a story blending legend, myth, and reality, portraying the mentality and fate of Kosovars with depth and empathy. This novel honors our ancestors wherever they were born and sheds light on the untold destinies of Serbian women. Our organization considers it a sacred legacy, and we are grateful to God and the author for allowing us to witness its publication.
Kosovo, the Serbian Metoh
The book is fully dedicated to Kosovo as the Metoh of the Serbian people, honoring the sacrifices made along the path of the Christ-centered life. This path inevitably leads back to Kosovo, following the ways of our ancestors, which we must remember. Within these pages, there is no fiction – all is truth, all has happened, and all may happen again.
