In Novo Brdo on the third day of Christmas

In Novo Brdo, 50 holiday gift packages were handed out to children up to the fourth grade from families with limited means. We visited the villages of Paralovo, Izvor, Prekovce, Jasenovik, and several of their hamlets.

The distribution in Novo Brdo began with cheerful spirits, just like in previous years. Because of the distance between hamlets, we split into two groups so that every home with children could be reached. We first visited our little friend Viktor in Izvor, who was overjoyed with his package. Of course, many more happy faces followed.

The youngest were thrilled with toys, while schoolchildren were excited about school supplies that will help them in class. Talking with parents, we heard the same as in past years — life is hard, but they don’t complain. Families mostly live from livestock and farming. In remote hamlets, children’s greatest struggle is loneliness.

Life in Novo Brdo Hamlets

In the hamlet of Mirkovci in Izvor, children and parents used to gather in the schoolyard, where there is a small playground with swings and slides. Sadly, in recent times, unknown people in off-road vehicles have been seen around the village, which made parents fearful, so gatherings and play are no longer an option.

Hospitality and Warmth of Our People

Still, the whole day passed in a wonderful atmosphere, filled with joy. At every home, we barely managed to say no to coffee, as time was short, but the families’ kindness could not be avoided. In the end, we carried plenty of apples, walnuts, and other fruit given to us as gifts — in the true spirit of Christmas.

Once Again in Novo Brdo This Year

We heard that families spend the holidays celebrating, welcoming and visiting relatives. The cheerful spirit, kindness, and boundless hospitality of the people in  Novo Brdo always inspire and uplift us, despite the difficult conditions they live in. That is why it’s always a joy to return, visit them, and share holiday happiness with their children.
