Christmas gift packages arrived in Kololec on the third day of Christmas. Once again, we gathered with the robotics champions at the “Deveti maj” Elementary School to celebrate Christmas together and share warm greetings.

The children of Kololec were overjoyed and grateful for the gifts and attention. The new balls brought them special excitement, while the boys proudly received jerseys of their favorite football clubs.

As winter break draws to an end, twelve pupils from Kololech are eagerly waiting to return to school. It’s rare to meet children so devoted to their school, teachers, and friends—spending nearly all their free time in the schoolyard. This shows how the effort of both teachers and parents has been key in nurturing friendship, playfulness, and community among them.
If Only There Were More of Us
“Our only problem is that there are not more of us,” say the teachers. This is, unfortunately, the general issue in the village and surrounding areas, as many Serbs have left. Driving towards Kololech, you pass through Serbian villages of the Kosovska Kamenica region. The same picture repeats—small, tidy homes and yards, prepared for winters that fewer and fewer families remain to face.

Still, even a little support for the remaining population would be enough to breathe new life into this region. Many households here are still alive, filled with children and hardworking people determined to cultivate and expand their land. Kololech is widely known for its unique local pepper variety that once every household grew. With secure buyers, proper processing technology, and cooperative farming, locals believe many families could stay and thrive here once again.
