In the container settlement in Gračanica, 30 people are still living there. Beneath the hot, worn-out metal sheets, in extremely inhumane conditions, three families with seven small children are trying to make a home.

The situation is very difficult. Insects, rats, mice, and even snakes often appear, causing skin infections among the children. They urgently need hygiene supplies and food!

Life in a container

The Ilić family has been waiting for years for a new home. Zoran and Katarina have three children, and they often suffer from health issues because of the conditions they live in. They hope their problem will soon be resolved and that they will finally have a decent life. Otherwise, they say, they will be forced to leave Kosovo and Metohija.

“The children are struggling, this is not a life,” explains Zoran. “Every day you worry about what might happen to them, you fear they’ll get sick. Thirty of us share one bathroom. Everything is worn out, dirty…”

Katarina recently lost a baby during pregnancy because of the unhygienic conditions. In just ten square meters, they sleep, cook, heat the stove, and bathe the little ones.
